Starting any small business can be daunting. Learning how to address and overcome challenges that arise can be the difference between long-term success and failure.

What is the biggest challenge when building a personal brand through social media and how do you resolve it?

The biggest difficulty is our size and budget when competing with so many other similarly scaled business. More than 50 million small businesses using Facebook Pages to connect with their customers (Source: Facebook). 4 million of those businesses pay for social media advertising on Facebook. (Source: Forbes) Maximizing organic reach and staying on top of emerging trends and changing technology is a full time job that people don't always have the resources to manage.

It is important though. Consider these two statistics: 1. Online adults aged 18-34 are most likely follow a brand via social networking (95%). (Source: MarketingSherpa) and 2. 71% of consumers who have had a good social media service experience with a brand are likely to recommend it to others. Don't discount it, do stay on top of trends, keep it up to date, and the old standby, content is king. Good content matters.

What is the biggest challenge when getting sponsors? How do you bring them on board?

The reality is, there are a lot of worthy small businesses to choose from out there - we have to be concerned with how we set ourselves apart from the crowd? For us, our status as a nonprofit engaged in the community is important, but still doesn’t make an impact without intentional relationship building. The answer is time and relationships, being visible in the community and understanding that it is a two way transaction and calculated choice for corporations.

What is the most common challenge Fitness Entrepreneurs get, and how to resolve it?

As a new coach breaking into the scene several years ago, the biggest challenge was educating my clients. Being that I am a coach and not a personal trainer, I have to educate my clients on several facts and break the myths they believe: 1) it isn’t required to elevate your heart rate to have a great workout, and the name of the game is to keep your heart rate as low as possible and produce the best possible result. And 2) a workout with me isn’t going to make you sweat, tired or sore. It resolves itself after 6-8 workouts because they start seeing results, feeling better and getting stronger.
