They stepped into the role...can you?

Renée Zellweger as Judy Garland. Viola Davis as Michele Obama. Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy. Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe. These actresses stepped into really big shoes and played iconic roles. How do you think they felt preparing to do so?

It’s similar to how women leaders feel stepping into the roles they are asked to play every day. One difference is that there is no script to guide them. And it can be very lonely at the top. 

Imposter syndrome is real and many women leaders feel they aren’t cut out for the roles they’ve been given and everyone is watching and judging. But like the women above, they certainly are ready. They can wow audiences and make a big impact if they just believe in themselves and find the right mix of confidence, vulnerability and humility.

Identify a role model, a great woman leader you look up to and admire. Then take a moment and think if she was in my shoes how would she act? This is not about taking on her personality. It is about borrowing a bit of her self confidence until you develop more of your own.  

When we look at legends, like the ladies above, always remember they started out just like us, women with ambition, dedicated to doing their jobs to the best of their ability.
