Studies show that women make up less than 20% of U.S. tech jobs. What are the factors affecting this staggeringly low number?

Why don’t more women pursue a career in the tech field? 

How do we begin to equal the playing field?  The technology field is male-dominated, this raises questions about equal pay and equal opportunity. Change happens as each woman is hired based on their skill, given equal opportunity to advance and equal pay.  

As someone who spent 20 years in the printing industry, a male-dominated industry during that time, I understand the challenges of equality when you are a minority. At times it is difficult and feels like a fight to move up and move to the top of the industry.

There are advantages of having both genders in leadership roles and in the top of the technology field. Women and men see things from different perspectives and the importance of diversity in top leadership and management is vital to this growing field.  

The younger we get women interested and involved in the field of technology, the faster we will increase their confidence in what is possible and have them make a big impact in the long run.
