Speaking Point: During Casey Anthony’s trial, her beauty and sexiness could have worked against her. The public had a difficult time understanding (and so did I) how she partied and Facebook’d while her child was missing. Therefore her attorneys obviously worked with an image expert to dull down Casey’s looks tremendously to help her gain the jury’s sympathy. This manipulation of her image certainly worked in her favor. While I am personally saddened and sickened by the lack of a guilty verdict, here’s my take, as an image consultant, about what happened with Casey’s appearance and what’s happening with it now and moving into the future: Speaking Point: Casey’s attorneys had her look her absolute worst. Wearing a black head band with her hair pulled back, made her ears stick out. They did nothing to counteract the terrible lighting in the courtroom, opting instead to have her wear hardly any makeup, to accentuate the dark circles and bags under her eyes. Perhaps they darkened the dark circles with smudge makeup. They made her look homely and dressed her as such. Because if she dressed as she normally did, it could have her hurt chances of going free. That's because many people think beautiful sexy women spend more time on looking good than on being good mothers. So good mothering doesn't equate with good looks, especially in Casey's case. Speaking Point: Casey’s body language during her trial was downtrodden, with her head bent down, hands clenched, somber facial expressions, and shoulders slumped. In my professional opinion, it was all calculated and very unnatural to the personna she portrayed when her child was missing for weeks. Her court image was obviously manipulated to “do away” with the irresponsible “sexy fun party girl” image that she had. Speaking Point: I predicted that her image would change immediately if she was found not guilty of murder. Sure enough, the very next day after the verdict was announced, Casey’s image was already 100% prettier. Her hair was blown out, worn down and long, which looked playful and sexy. She had some makeup on. She was all smiles and her body language was flirtatious and animated. Quite a contrast to the way she looked and behaved during the long trial. Speaking Point: Now that Casey is getting out of jail I predict she goes all out to look great again. People are who they are and she is a party lovIng, attention loving girl who loves to look sexy. Just like Lindsay Lohan, who knew she needed to clean up her act and didn't, I predict Casey will do something similar. There's a good chance that she'll want to capitalize on all of the media attention and look as fabulous as she can while all eyes are on her, even though that's not in her best interest at this time. After all, if she got away with alleged murder, why on earth wouldn't she think that she is beyond reproach and untouchable? So she may assume that she can look, dress, and behave any way she wants just like she did when her child was missing...which would be a huge mistake. Speaking Point: I am a mother of three that has always taken time to present myself nicely and I know there are many wonderful mothers who have also always strive to look beautiful. However, Casey's appearance and actions when her child went missing confirmed public opinion that sexy beautiful moms are usually bad mothers. She exacerbated the prejudice we have against beautiful sexy looking moms and in her case, rightly so. Therefore, Casey, has many prejudices to overcome and which woman she portrays through her image will determine how she is received, to a large degree, back into society. Her image choices are crucial. Speaking Point: I think if Casey gets good advice about her image and behavior from her image consultant and attorneys, she would do best to keep her image conservative...very conservative. She should groom well, dress nicely but definitely not sexy or too trendy. Her hair and makeup should be very soft and natural. And as importantly, she must not be posting wild photos of herself partying on Facebook. She needs to lay low and show herself as a grieving mother which is what the public always expected of a woman in her situation. Casey will have a harder time assimilating back into society if she does an about face. She needs to look like she's in mourning. Speaking Point: I predict that Casey's ego get her into trouble. So she'll continue to glamorize her image more and more as she is offered all kinds of media exposure. I also predict Casey gets a huge book deal. Casey will look better than ever as she makes a "killing" from selling her story.
