Speaking Point: During Lindsay's short stint in jail, she was obviously barred from abusing
alcohol and street drugs. But according to reports of the prescription drugs she's been taking, she now needs to be detoxed and treated for abuse of these. In rehab, the first treatment is directed towards detox from the substances that are being abused. Next, comes the in-depth treatment of the addiction to help the patient understand why she has turned to abusing substances to escape from her life and what she can do to better cope without them in the future. Speaking Point: It has been reported that Lindsay is taking Adderall, Dilaudid, and two antidepressants. Adderall is an amphetamine used for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is one of the most commonly misused drug in Hollywood, abused because of its properties to make one feel high and to lose weight. As more and more starlets have been reported to be taking this drug, in recent years, my phone has been ringing with people claiming to have ADHD and begging for Adderall. It's become a must- have, like Paris Hilton's chihuaha. Speaking Point: Dilaudid, which Lindsay claims to have been taking for dental pain, is not something that one should be on chronically. The pain that Lindsay is trying to calm is not dental - but emotional. And this is not the solution. Speaking Point: Ideally, Lindsay will now be taken off all of her prescribed medications, in addition to not having access to alcohol or street drugs. It is only in this manner that doctors will be able to diagnose her underlying psychological problems that these prescription drugs are masking. Then they will know what medications she truly needs. Speaking Point: In addition to medications, she will need years of psychotherapy to get at the roots of her addiction. As with all addictions, the roots begin in childhood. Speaking Point: I applaud Lindsay's father's efforts to have the doctors investigated who have been prescribing this cocktail of drugs.
