Speaking Point: By utilizing the ancient ingenuity of water harvesting systems and providing advanced filter technology in areas adversely affected by the water scarcity crisis, RainCatcher is able to drastically reduce the risk of the water-related diseases currently taking 4,500 lives each day. Ninety percent of these lives taken are children younger than 5 years old.
Having provided water for over 450,000 people and adding rainwater harvesting systems on 48 schools and churches to date, RainCatcher is focused on creating a chance at life and education for the children and the betterment of the community and its ability to survive and prosper. Speaking Point: RainCatcher... The Founders: Mark and Jack~ Mark Armfeld has been building environmental custom homes and specialty water projects since 1983 in Malibu California. Through the 1990's and 2000's, Mark concentrated on clean water for the ocean and ground water, storm-water run-off, water conservation, rainwater harvesting, and water filtration systems. After a trip to India, Thailand and China in 1990, Mark became aware that a large portion of the world is challenged in obtaining clean drinking water. Speaking Point: In 2005, Mark met Jack Rose who was designing innovative building projects and was involved with Rainwater Harvesting. Jack thought of the name, RainCatcher when he was in Kauai in 1997, by catching rain from large leaves that collected water when the rain fell. Jack went to Kenya in 2004 to start the concept of Rainwater Harvesting on schools in Africa. As Jack was in Africa, Mark was developing plans and designs for advanced Rainwater Harvesting Systems here in Malibu, California. Speaking Point: In May 2009, Mark founded the non-profit, "RainCatcher" and started the momentum on a larger global scale. As the awareness grew about the millions that die and suffer from contaminated water, the true documented stories became more and more real to the people of the world. Speaking Point: “The easiest thing in the world is to catch the rain". RainCatcher has provided hundreds of thousands of people with clean drinking water in Africa, Haiti, India and other portions of the remote world. We are now approaching our goals to providing millions of people clean drinking water and continue to increase the momentum for the rest of the world. Speaking Point: I, Darin jumped on board in 2010 because of my intimate exposure around the world with indigenous people while I was hunting herbs. The issue of contaminated water was obvious and the simplicity, yet powerfully sustainable way RainCatcher was providing a solution RIGHT NOW made it attractive to me. No waiting for governments or other organizations we can change lives person to person, village to village, country to country and rid the world of this unnecessary problem. Speaking Point: In January 2011, we brought in David Zielski to help manage our growing nonprofit. His experience in sustainable business, company management and social media and internet marketing were what RainCatcher required to get our programs more organized, build our awareness and grow this nonprofit that will allow for us to help a lot more people for years to come.
