Check it: Keeping Your Luggage Safe When Flying
Guestpert: Carolyn Scott-Hamilton
Category: Lifestyle, Fashion, and Travel

Speaking Point: Security, security, security. That's what we see and hear every time we fly these days. Long security checks, practically disrobing to be sure that no one is getting anything sketchy past the TSA, etc. But once we bid a fond adieu to our heavy bags at the the ticket counter, we don't see how it's treated until we arrive at our destination. Even if it's arrived unscathed, it may have been rifled through by the TSA. Here are some tips that will keep your luggage and your valuable contents as safe as possible when you travel next!

Speaking Point: Using a luggage lock can add an extra layer of security, but it wont prevent the TSA from looking inside.

Speaking Point: Be on top of the carousel when you arrive at your destination. Dillydallying on your way to luggage claim can be the 2 minute difference where a thief could take off with your goods.

Speaking Point: keep track of your luggage is the baggage receipt.

Speaking Point: make sure to look over the shoulder of the ticket agent (or confirm 3 times verbally) to check the destination of your bag.

Speaking Point: Really think while you're packing, do you really need all 5 pais of those super expensive shoes? Only pack what you need and be conservative.

Speaking Point: Pack valuables like jewelry, electronics or breakables in your carry on.
