Casey Anthony - Beauty Can Be A Double Edged Sword
Guestpert: Eve Michaels
Category: Crime and Law
  JJI Seal of Approval

Speaking Point: Beauty can uplift and heal. It can also be used to deceive. In this country we have a strong belief that sexy looking, beautiful women cannot be good mothers. Nothing could be further from the truth. Looking beautiful or not has nothing to do with a woman’s mothering or parenting skills. If she looks great, it doesn’t mean she is selfish. Looking or being sexy does not equate to inappropriate child care.

Speaking Point: However in Casey Anthony’s trial, her beauty and sexiness would have worked against her. The public had a difficult time understanding (and so did I) how she partied and Facebook’d while her child was missing. Her attorneys obviously worked with an expert to dull down Casey’s looks to help her gain the jury’s sympathy. This manipulation of her image certainly worked in her favor.

Speaking Point: . While I am personally saddened and sickened by the lack of a guilty verdict, here’s my take, as an image consultant, about what happened with Casey’s appearance and what’s happening with it now and moving into the future:

Speaking Point: Casey’s attorneys had her look her absolute worst. Wearing a black head band with her hair pulled back, made her ears stick out. They did nothing to counteract the terrible lighting in the courtroom, opting instead to have her wear hardly any makeup, to accentuate the dark circles and bags under her eyes. Perhaps they darkened the dark circles with smudge makeup.

Speaking Point: They had Casey dress poorly and plainly, again to elicit empathy and pity from the jury and public. Casey’s body language was downtrodden. Head bent down, extremely somber, and sad. Her image was obviously manipulated to “do away” with the irresponsible “sexy fun party girl” image that she had.

Speaking Point: Now that the trial is over and Casey has been found not guilty, I predicted that she would start looking better immediately. On Thursday, at the sentencing at court: Casey’s hair was blown out, worn down and long, which looked playful and sexy. Quite a contrast to the way she looked all these months. She had some makeup on and looked “pretty and perky”.

Speaking Point: I predict Casey will continue to glamorize her image more and more as she is offered all kinds of media exposure. I also predict Casey gets a huge book deal. Casey will look better than ever as she.

Speaking Point: My God, will the real Casey Anthony please stand up! Who is this woman?
