Speaking Point: In recent years, the world has been consumed with corporations, government, religious leaders, and school officials showing an extensive lack of integrity. Therefore, we expect, and have earned, the right to transparency in our leaders. Because of the loss of credibility in our leadership, the nation’s people question what we do not see with our own eyes. During these times, faith is rarely felt. Speaking Point: CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll showed more than four in 10 Republicans believed Obama probably or definitely was not born in America. Their suspicion created a conspiracy theory that distracted the government and its people from real problems affecting the US: high gas prices, the South’s tornado destruction, and bring about peace in the Middle East, and bringing our soldiers home safely. Speaking Point: Did Obama have an obligation in producing this document from the beginning? In ordinary times, he would have been well within his right to refuse. But we’re not living in ordinary times. The public now demands transparency. Since 2008, he has been asked to reveal it, but only released his shorter “certificate of live birth.” His refusal to produce a birth certificate only fueled greater suspicion and skepticism leading to allegations of a cover up. He could have put the “birther” debate to rest long ago if he had produced this document earlier. Speaking Point: Trump told reporters in New Hampshire that he is "very proud" of himself for helping to bring about the release of the document. Speaking Point: Corporations have been showing a lack of transparency for a long time – little did the public know that hackers based in China mount long campaigns of cyberattacks against large corporations to obtain intellectual property on a regular basis. Just this past January, Google was forced to announce that it lost proprietary information, while in February it was found that Chinese hackers had stolen information from oil companies for well over a year. Speaking Point: The Catholic Church is another source in recent news that shows a lack of transparency that has the public restless. For years, the Church was ‘recycling’ priests who had been accused of molestation and moving them into other parishes. The people were left unaware, and since the secrets have come out, the Church has lost credibility, among many of its once faithful followers. Speaking Point: A recent news story revealed that our own cellphones may be spying on us. We know that our internet searches are catalogued and saved, and thus targeted advertising created, but not many realized that our very location was attainable at all times, when you’re not using your phone. Isn’t it obvious why people are spooked and demand transparency from everyone, including our own President?
